If people who shun all meat are vegetarians, are cannibals then considered to be humanitarians ? The offended senator appealed to Calvin Coolidge, presiding vice president, concerning the appropriateness of the comment. After leafing through some pages, Coolidge looked up and declared dryly, "I've been going through the rulebook. You don't have to go. - Chris Blake] Something similar happened in college during rehearsal for a play (I believe we were doing "1776" at the time). During heightened tensions, one cast member told another to "Go to hell." The other retorted, "I've already been there. I don't like how your mother runs the place." Despite what you might, it actually loosened the tension that night. (It helped that the college was small - ca. 250 students a year - and everyone knew each other anyway). - John L. Hoh, Jr. |
