WITandWISDOM(tm) - August 9, 1999 ~~~~~~~ THOUGHTS: "Never seem wiser, nor more learned, than the people you are with. Wear your learning, like your watch, in a private pocket, and do not pull it out and strike it merely to show you have one. If you are asked what o'clock it is, tell it, but do not proclaim it hourly and unasked, like the watchman." - Lord Chesterfield to his son (E-zine: INSPIRATION A DAY! Mailto:jhinds@technologist.com) ~~~~~~~ SPECIAL THOUGHTS: TIME WITH GOD By Veronica H. Free, Seagrove, North Carlina Copyright 1999 Until recently one of the first things to be pushed aside from my daily schedule was prayer and Bible study time. I was too rushed or something would happen to interrupt my prayer time, or I would drift off to sleep. Finally I found the perfect solution to my dilemma. I decided to have a daily "tea time" with God. Our time together does not happen at the same time each day, but it does happen daily. As I sip my tea, I read a daily devotional and the Bible passages that accompany it. The warmth from the cup reminds me of God's comforting love. After I complete my Bible reading, I talk to God. I relax knowing that I have placed everything in His hands. The remainder of our tea time I meditate. Sometimes I sit outdoors and enjoy God's creation. Other times I sit in total silence, and often a solution to a problem that I have been struggling with becomes clear. Observing a "tea time" with God has had a positive impact on my life. I have found that for me it is the best way to ensure that I have daily prayer and Bible study. - DECISION, March 1999 (Magazine: DECISION http://www.graham- assn.org/decision/) ~~~~~~~ THIS & THAT: YOU WON'T HEAR THIS ON TV . . . By Rudy Minger, Copyright 1999 "Since absolutely nothing interesting happened today, we're just going to give you the weather and call it a night." "Now that I've had a few minutes to consider it, Mr. Springer, I think my wife has a valid point . . ." "Due to the extremely graphic nature of this program, we've changed our minds and decided not to show it at all." "I don't really care if our team wins this game. I'm so exhausted I just want to get it over with." "Since our ministry has all the money it needs at present, we won't be asking for any funds for the next six months." "We're going to be running a least eight commercials now, so this would be a good time for you to get a snack." - Reader's Digest, March 1999 (Magazine: Reader's Digest http:www.readersdigest.com) ~~~~~~~ KEEP SMILING: Zack and his mule were walking down the road when one of Zack's friends drove up and offered him a ride to town. Zack got into the truck while his mule ran along behind. The mule was right in back of them as they reached 55, and stayed with them as they sped up to 70. "I'm worried about your mule," said the driver. "his tongue's hanging out." "Which way?" asked Zack. "Left," his friend said. "Well, stay in this lane - he's about to pass."
