WITandWISDOM(tm) - August 27, 1999 ~~~~~~~ THOUGHTS: "Sooner or later everyone sits down to a banquet of consequences." - Robert Louis Stevenson (E-zine: FOCUS WORDS http://www.onelist.com/subscribe.cgi/focuswords) ~~~~~~~ SPECIAL THOUGHTS: "Not one sparrow. . .can fall to the ground without your Father knowing it. And the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So don't worry! You are more valuable to him than many sparrows." - Jesus (Matthew 10:29-31, TLB) I read recently about some city workers in Hamilton, Canada, who were trimming trees along a certain street. In one tree they found a nest with several baby robins in it. They decided not to trim this tree until the nest was empty. When it was abandoned, the workers returned. In the nest they found a piece of paper, along with dried twigs, the robins had used to build the nest for their babies. On the paper were printed the words, "We trust in the Lord our God!" - Dick Innes (E-zine: DAILY ENCOUNTER http://www.actsweb.org/encounter.htm) ~~~~~~~ THIS & THAT: POLITICAL QUOTES - (Part 2 of 2) "Let's do this in one foul swoop." "I want to thank each and every one of you for having extinguished yourselves in this session." "I would like to take this time to reirritate my remarks." "The average age of a 7 year old in this state is 13." "I hate to confuse myself with the facts." "We have a permanent plan for the time being." "Family planning has many misconceptions." "The people in my district do not want this highway bypass, no matter if it goes through or around the city." "My knowledge is no match for his ignorance." "As long as I am in the Senate, there will not be a nuclear suppository in our state." "These numbers are not my own; they are from someone who knows what he's talking about." "People planning on getting into serious accidents should have their seat belts on." "In 1994, Americans stand on the horns of an enema." (E-zine: THE FUNNY LIST http://www.egroups.com/list/thefunnylist) ~~~~~~~ KEEP SMILING: Don't ever put anyone up on a pedestal. They can throw things down on you from up there. ~~~~~~~ TRIVIA: "From 1900 to 1967, the Swiss were the leading watchmakers in the world. In 1967, when the digital technology was patented by the Swiss, they rejected it in favor of the traditional ball bearings, gears, and mainsprings they had been using to make watches for decades. Unfortunately, however, the world was ready for this advance, and Seiko, a Japanese company, picked up the digital patent and became the leading watch manufacturer in the world almost overnight. Fifty thousand of the 67,000 Swiss watchmakers went out of business because they refused to embrace this new technology. It was not until years later that the Swiss caught up and regained their position in the marketplace with the creation of Swatch watches." - BITS & PIECES http://www.epinc.com/ (E-zine: WEEKEND ENCOUNTER http://www.gospelcom.net/actsi/weekly/) |
