~~~~~~~ THOUGHTS:
Real communication happens when people feel safe. - Ken Blanchard, The Heart of a Leader (Honor Books)
~~~~~~~ SPECIAL THOUGHTS:

An incident told by Gordon Cosby, leader of the Church of the Saviour in Washington, D.C., follows:

I was minister of a small Baptist congregation in a railroad town just outside of Lynchburg, Virginia. My deacon sent for me one day and told me he wanted my help. 'We have in our congregation," he said, "a widow with six children. I have looked at the record and discovered that she is putting into the treasury of the church each month $4.00 - a tithe of her income. Of course she is unable to do this. We want you to go and talk to her and let her know that she needs to feel no obligation whatsoever, and free her from the responsibility."

I am not wise now. I was less wise then. I went and told her of the concern of the deacons. I told her as graciously and as supportively as I knew how that she was relieved of the responsibility of giving. As I talked with her, tears come into her eyes. "I want to tell you," she said, "that you are taking away the last thing that gives my life dignity and meaning."

~~~~~~~ THIS & THAT:
Thoughts About Life . . .
Why are things typed up but written down?
How is it that "it was an uphill battle" and "it went downhill from there" mean the same thing?
We had Cured Ham for Christmas dinner. We all wondered what illness it was cured of.
Why do people say they "worked like a dog"? Our dog just sat around all day.
When our kids were younger and they got a little crazy, my wife used a nice, safe playpen. When they calmed down, she climbed out.
How is it that we put a man on the moon before we figured out that wheels on luggage would be a good idea?
I'm a light eater. As soon as it's light, I start to eat.
I used to watch golf on TV during the weekend, but my doctor told me I needed more exercise ... so now I watch tennis.
Why are you "in" a movie, but you're "on" TV?
How come you never see Cupid with a girlfriend?
I saw a sign the other day that said "Life is one contradiction after another." Someone had written in under it, "No, it's not."
Is it possible to scream at the bottom of your lungs?
I'm going to try the Atkins diet in 2003, because my end no longer justifies the jeans. Or something like that.
~~~~~~~ TRIVIA:

Much to our dismay, our dog gave birth to 11 puppies. Six weeks later, we put an ad in the local paper: "FREE TO GOOD HOME 11 Adorable Puppies." Response was meager, and at the end of two weeks we still had seven left.

We changed our tactics. The next ad read: "FREE TO GOOD HOME 1 Very Ugly and 6 Very Pretty Puppies." As soon as the paper came out, the phone calls started all from people who wanted to know if we still had the "ugly" one.

By the end of the next day, we had given the "ugly" puppy away seven times.
