~~~~~~~ THOUGHTS:
Each day, and the living of it, has to be a conscious creation in which discipline and order are relieved with some play and pure foolishness. - May Sarton
~~~~~~~ SPECIAL THOUGHTS:

Joe drove to Salt Lake City from another state on the promise of a trucking job. But the job offer fell through. In his hotel room Joe struggled all evening with depression. Giving up the struggle around 3 A.M., he went out to get the shotgun he had in the trunk of his car. He intended to end his life.

However, for some reason Joe's key would not unlock the trunk. Tense and frustrated, he kept trying, with no success.

Suddenly, Joe realized that a man had walked up behind him. "Do you need help?" the stranger asked.

"Not the kind anyone can give me."

Indicating a restaurant next to the hotel, the stranger said, "Let's have coffee and talk about it."

They talked for an hour. Then the stranger wrote a phone number on a napkin and gave it to Joe. "If you still need help in the morning, call this number." At 9 A.M., Joe dialed the number.

My husband, Ken, a pastor, had stopped by the church office on his day off to pick up a book. When the phone rang, he answered it. "I'm going to kill myself," Joe said. "I can't go on."

Ken calmed Joe, listened to his problems, and learned he had diabetes. Then he succeeded in convincing Joe that blood-sugar problems can cause depression, and Joe eventually agreed to let Ken take him to a hospital.

Diabetes, along with high blood pressure, was indeed Joe's problem. With medication, his emotions stabilized by the next day.

Who gave Joe the church phone number? We never found out. But Joe told us that when he called his wife to tell her what had happened, she said, "Something woke me at 3 A.M. the night after you didn't get the job. I prayed for God to send someone to help you. I guess He did."

God has promised that in His kingdom, "before they call I will answer; while they are still speaking I will hear."- Isaiah 65:24 We will experience that fully only in the new earth, when God dwells with us. But even now, God is close enough to hear our pleas for help.

~~~~~~~ THIS & THAT:
At an annual Bosses Night dinner for Helena, Montana, lawyers, sponsored by legal secretaries, it was time to announce the Boss of the Year. The master of ceremonies began: "First of all, our winner is a graduate of the University of Montana. So that already eliminates some of you as candidates. "Our winner also is a partner in a downtown Helena law firm. That eliminates some more of you. "Our nominee is honest, upright, dedicated..."
A voice from the audience cut in: "Well, there go the rest of us!"
~~~~~~~ KEEP SMILING:

There apparently exists, somewhere in L.A., a computer that generates concepts for television sitcoms. When TV executives need a new concept, they turn on this computer. After sorting through millions of possible plot premises, it spits out "Three Quirky but Attractive Young People Living in an Apartment", and the executives turn this concept into a show. The next time they need an idea, the computer spits out "Six Quirky but Attractive Young People Living in an Apartment". Then, next time it spits out "Four Quirky but Attractive Young People Living in an Apartment" and so on. We need to locate that computer and destroy it with hammers.

~~~~~~~ TRIVIA:
Note: Regarding Friday's Trivia a WITandWISDOM subscriber writes:
Quartz crystals vibrate with any frequencies. From a few times per second to millions times per second. That depends on the size of the crystal. To achieve the number "32,768" the plants produce the crystal with special precision sizes. The bigger sizes the lower frequency or the bigger the time interval.
The quartzes that work in the digital radio receivers oscillate tens of millions time per second. The size of the crystal change with time and temperature and this is the reason for changing their vibrations.
Why 32,768? Because it is 2 to the 15th power. The counters count by base 2. So it is simpler to build the clock circuits with this number. When I didn't have such a quartz I build my first digital clock with 8,000 quartz, using more complicated circuit of the counter.
