When my husband and I opened the box of 25 printed invitations that we had ordered, we found this notice inside: "To assure that you receive the exact amount you have purchased, your invitations and envelopes have been counted by the same type of machine used by the federal government to count currency." The box contained 26 envelopes and 27 invitations. The name of the substance means "green leaf because it is the green substance that makes leaves green. Later experiments showed that this mysterious substance is involved in the production of glucose, which is the combination of water and carbon dioxide that plants produce as the basic food source for all the animals on earth. But the makeup of chlorophyll was still unknown for almost one hundred years after its discovery. In 1912 the chlorophyll code was cracked to reveal that a molecule of this miracle substance is composed of exactly one atom of magnesium linked to 136 atoms of nitrogen, carbon, and oxygen. That in itself was not so startling, but another fact that was already known made the composition of chlorophyll a stunning discovery. If you take that one lone magnesium atom and replace it with one lone iron atom, you have essentially produced a molecule of red blood! The formulas are so close to the same that scientists nicknamed chlorophyll "green blood." Source: Glimpses of God's Love by James A.
