WITandWISDOM(tm) - June 23, 2004 ISSN 1538-8794 ~~~~~~~ THOUGHTS: Your talent is God's gift to you. What you do with it is your gift back to God. - Leo Buscaglia Source: Carol's Thought for Today, http://www.kalama.com/~carola/ ~~~~~~~ SPECIAL THOUGHTS: How do you reach a zero crime rate... ... in one of England's most run-down neighborhoods, and that during a period of ten days? You bring 1,000 young Christians to the area!" That was the summary given by a Manchester Police officer of the Soul Survivor outreach to crime-plagued Swinton Valley in Greater Manchester. The Christian youths tidied up three hundred gardens, collected over 200 tons of refuse and renovated a public hall and a park. Eighteen months later, the youth crime rate had dropped by almost half, so that even the British Home Secretary Jack Straw traveled to Manchester to present the Police with a medal. Soul Survivor is planning a similar outreach in London in August 2004. Two-year-old Mitchell and Elliott Cocks, from Sale Moor, now have matching plaster casts to go with their matching clothes. The Daily Express says the coincidence began when Mitchell fell off the slide in his back garden and banged his head. His mother Sarah took him to hospital where he was checked out and sent home. The boys' father Christopher pushed the slide over on its side to stop any more accidents, but hours later Elliott tripped over the base of the slide and was taken to hospital too. He was found to have broken his left arm, and while he was being treated, Mitchell said his left arm was hurting too. An x-ray found he'd broken it. Sarah said: "They wear the same clothes and have the same haircut. Now they have broken their left arms together. When we found out Mitchell had broken the same arm I couldn't believe it. "The hospital staff were rubbing their eyes in disbelief." Older brother Kristian, 12, is also in plaster after breaking a foot last week. He'd only just had a cast removed after falling off his bike and breaking an arm. They were discussing the details with their friends. Nancy wasn't going to wear a traditional bridal gown and she started describing the dress she was planning to wear. One of her friends asked what color shoes she had to go with the dress. Nancy replied, "Silver." At that point, her husband chimed in, "Yep silver...to match her hair." Shooting a look at John's bald spot, Nancy's friend said, "So John, I guess you are going barefoot."
