WITandWISDOM(tm) - September 7, 2004 ISSN 1538-8794 ~~~~~~~ THOUGHTS: A man travels the word over in search of what he needs, and returns home to find it. - George Moore Source: Carol's Thought for Today, http://www.kalama.com/~carola/ ~~~~~~~ SPECIAL THOUGHTS: A young minister was being interviewed by a church board for the position of pastor. One old hard-working Irishman who was on the board looked at the young man sternly and asked, "Young man, did God send you here?" He replied, "Well, I don't know if God sent me here. I am here trying to find the will of God and find out if you would like me for your next pastor." The board member replied, "Young man, did God send you here?" The young minister was somewhat at a loss for words and came back again, "Well, I just stopped by to talk with the board --" The board member interrupted again and said, "Young man, did God send you here?" Finally he screwed up his courage and said, "Well, I guess God didn't send me here. I just stopped by to see about whether we could get together." The old board member leaned back in his seat and said, "That's good. The last four said that God had sent them, and we have had nothing but trouble with all four of them!" By James S. There is a guaranteed way to get what you want: want less. Did you hear about the self help group for compulsive talkers? It's called On & On Anon. First National Bank of Dad: Sorry, Closed. Did you know that it costs forty thousand dollars a year to house each prisoner? Humph, for forty thousand bucks a piece, I’ll take a few prisoners into my house. I live in Los Angeles. I already have bars on the windows. It is well documented that for every mile that you jog, you add one minute to your life. This enables you at 85 years old to spend an additional 5 months in a nursing home at $5000 per month. As they were enjoying a bottle of champagne, they noticed a similar scene taking place at an adjoining table between a man and a woman who appeared to be in their 70s. Caught up in the gaiety, my friends confided that they had been married just 15 years, and then asked the older couple how long they had been together, expecting to be overwhelmed by the answer. "The truth is," replied the man, "that we are celebrating having met a week ago today." When she tried her reserve parachute, it too failed to work properly, getting tangled. She was in a spiral heading to the ground. After plunging 11,000 ft in a 45 second free-fall, McKenzie hit power cables and then hit the ground. She suffered only a broken pelvis. Speaking from her hospital bed in Johannesburg, McKenzie said: "I hit the ground really hard and I was kind of waiting to die. Then the pain set in." McKenzie said the fall has not put her off skydiving and has vowed to jump again. Source: Ananova http://www.ananova.com |
