~~~~~~~ THOUGHTS:
Everything in the world may be endured except continued prosperity. - Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
~~~~~~~ SPECIAL THOUGHTS:

Psalm 145:15, "The eyes of all look to thee, and thou givest them their food in due season."

St. Thomas Lutheran Church in Brookville, Indiana, did something unusual on Thanksgiving 2004. They served a Thanksgiving meal to those in the community who wanted to come at no charge. All they asked was that people call in so they could plan how much food was needed, etc. St. Thomas is not a large church so this was important. The church meal was a big success, but there was food left over.

A tornado hit the little towns of Andersonville and Laurel at the far end of the county. St. Thomas' team was prepared, had the food, and off they went on a mission trip they had not considered. My cousin said that being of service there was the highlight of all their work.

But here is the rest of the story. Down here in Prattville, Al, one of the service clubs canceled their meeting and the caterer was left with all the food. It was not wasted as she was ready to go when the tornado hit Autaugaville, Al.

Maybe the psalmist was being poetic when he wrote this, but Psalm 145 just happened to be our preprinted Sunday school lesson after all this happened.

~~~~~~~ THIS & THAT:
A nervous young minister, new to the church, told the flock, "For my text today, I will take the words, 'And they fed five men with five thousand loaves of bread and two thousand fishes.'"
A member of the flock snickered at the preacher's snafu, raised his hand and said, "That's not much of a trick. I could do that."
The minister didn't respond. However, the next Sunday he decided to repeat the text. This time he did it properly, "And they fed five thousand men with five loaves of bread and two fishes."
Smiling, the minister said to the noisy man, "Could you do that, Mr. Perkins?"
The member of the flock said, "I sure could."
"How would you do it?"
"With all the food I had left over from last Sunday!"
~~~~~~~ KEEP SMILING:

I dialed a wrong number and got the following recording: "I am not available right now, but I thank you for caring enough to call. I am making some changes in my life. Please leave a message after the beep. If I do not return your call, you are one of the changes."

How Tsunamis Work

The latest death toll for the Indian Ocean tsunami has topped 150,000. While the human and cultural extent of this natural disaster is difficult to grasp, the physical properties that led to it are a bit more within our reach. Learn how a tsunami forms and what happens after it does.
