Each afternoon for about two hours the patient child faithfully practiced the piano in the hotel lobby, much to the annoyance of the other guests who often gathered there. One day an overnight guest at the hotel heard several people complaining about the irritating monotony of her simple exercises. Without a word the visitor made his way over to the piano and cautiously sat down on the bench beside the little music student. Then slowly he, too, began to play on the same piano with her, weaving around and through those humdrum exercises some great, sublime, and unusual harmonies. Soon surprised guests began to listen to the inspiring music and make their way into the lobby to better enjoy it. The little girl’s feeble efforts had been made glorious by the great musician. The Master of human life can work around these feeble efforts of ours day by day if we permit Him, weaving His high and holy purposes in and around them so that the final effect of our lives is glorious indeed. To avoid attracting attention in her Seattle neighborhood, she asked her children not to tell people what she did for a living. One day, while her five-year old son was getting a haircut, she overheard him reply to a question from the barber about her work. "I can't tell you what my mom does. (UPI) -- Kurdish refugee Alan Rauf just wanted to sound more American when he changed his name from Alladdin Abdul Nagshbandi; too bad the new name was on an FBI list. Rauf works as a contract interpreter for the U.S. Army in Iraq and was on his way to becoming a U.S. citizen when the FBI interrupted the process. His old name won approval just fine, but apparently there's more than one Alan Rauf and the FBI wants to make sure the 37-year-old interpreter isn't a security threat. Rauf's attorney said the name is pretty common and the FBI likely has records on several people. Rauf is suing the Department of Homeland Security, hoping to speed up the verification process. "Once there is a hit, it can sometimes take years to resolve the problem.
