WITandWISDOM(tm) - September 12, 2006 ISSN 1538-8794 ~~~~~~~ THOUGHTS: The most important things in life aren't things. Submitted by Lorraine ~~~~~~~ SPECIAL THOUGHTS: A lad was saying his prayer at grandmother’s knee. Suddenly he stopped; then ran downstairs. In a few minutes he was back to finish his prayer. As she tucked him in bed, grandmother reproved him mildly, saying: “Bobby, you must think when you pray.” “But, grandma, I did think. When I prayed I remembered that I had upset all Johnnie’s tin soldiers to tease him, and I hurried down to fix them all up again.” Yes, Bobby did think. Perhaps some of our own prayers could be interrupted profitably in a similar way. By Mrs. E. E. My ten-year-old niece answered the phone. "Hello," she whispered. "Hi, Honey. How's your mother doing?" I asked. "She's sleeping," she answered, again in a whisper. "Did she go to the doctor?" I asked. "Yes. She got some medicine," my niece said softly. "Well, don't wake her. Just tell her I called. What are you doing, by the way?" Again in a soft whisper, she answered, "Practicing my trumpet." He had a cherry pit stuffed up his nostril. The mother explained that she had already tried tweezers in an attempt to remove the pit but only succeeded in pushing it farther up her son's nose. I realized our emergency equipment was unsuitable for a comfortable removal of the object. But I'd been taught early on in medical school that a paper clip bent in a particular position, and then curved slightly, could be looped behind a pit to extract it from the nose. Finding a large clip, I bent it accordingly and managed to extract the object. The mother looked at me and smiled. That's why I came to the hospital--access to high-tech equipment.
