WITandWISDOM(tm) - November 23, 2006 ISSN 1538-8794 ~~~~~~~ THOUGHTS: Not what we say about our blessings, but how we use them, is the true measure of our thanksgiving. - W.T. Purkiser Source: Carol's Thought for Today, http://users.adelphia.net/~mrs.carol ~~~~~~~ SPECIAL THOUGHTS: While paying for a key I'd just had made, I noticed a display box filled with rings holding three shiny keys each. A sign read: Play Keys for Children. $.25 a Set. When I asked the key maker about them, she said, "I used to throw away the keys I damaged. Then one day I saw a mother hand her keys to her child to play with, and this idea came to me for putting my mistakes to good use." On the way home I thought about that...and about mistakes I've made that felt like permanent defeats. Sometimes a remark to a friend came out differently than I had intended, or the cake for the church's potluck supper fell into a crumbled mess. Humbling, right? Yes, but there's something positive, too. In the mending, or "putting to good use" of those mistakes— the apology to the friend, which leads to greater understanding, or the decision to pour pudding over the cake, which to my surprise proves very popular— I grow, and learn, and become (I hope) a better person. If it isn't right, I don't want anybody to say a word. We'll just get up from the table, without comment, and go down to the hotel for dinner." She returned some ten minutes later to find the family seated expectantly at the dinner table—wearing their hats and coats.
