~~~~~~~ THOUGHTS:
"The real measure of our wealth is how much we'd be worth if we lost all our money." - John Henry Jowett
~~~~~~~ SPECIAL THOUGHTS:

In their book Go Big (Abingdon), Bill Easum and Bil Cornelius talk about how they had to overcome their own major fears in order to be effective in the mission to which God had called them.

"When Bill E. left the pastorate to begin consulting he was so scared to get on an airplane that he had to take tranquilizers. To deal with his fear, he took flying lessons and became a certified pilot and now has flown over 3 million miles.

"Why did we do whatever it took to overcome our fear? Because the mission is more important than any fear we might have. Every leader is afraid of something (or someone) and that something is usually the limitation to his or her leadership so he or she does whatever it takes to overcome it. What's standing in your way? . . .

"One of the most frustrating things about being a pastor of a growing church is that the tools you have to learn to grow the church to one level won't work at the next level. As soon as you go to the next level, God asks you to turn in those tools and learn some new ones. You just got good using those tools and now they don't work anymore. Now you have to pick up new tools that are uncomfortable to you. Don't be afraid to learn a whole new way of leading."

~~~~~~~ THIS & THAT:
On Politics And Politicians . . .
You can tell the campaigning has started. The Statue of Liberty is holding her nose.
Why aren't conservatives interested in conservation?
Annoy a liberal: work hard and be happy.
Is politics the entertainment branch of industry?
You can tell when a candidate is beginning to get nervous about the race. They start kissing hands and shaking babies.
Nothing political is correct. Why do we make such a big deal about it?
If politicians are always promising to work for change, why do they need so much money?
Under Republicans, man exploits man. Under the Democrats, it's exactly the opposite!
Do conservatives go to colleges where you can get a liberal arts degree?
~~~~~~~ KEEP SMILING:

After noticing how trim my husband had become, a friend asked me how I had persuaded him to diet. It was then I shared my dark secret: "I put our teenage son's shorts in his underwear drawer."

~~~~~~~ TRIVIA:
While vacationing one day, orchestra leader Artur Rodzinski chanced upon a radio broadcast of an open-air concert conducted by Fabien Sevitzky. As the program was to include one of his own specialties (Shostakovich's Fifth Symphony) he tuned in despite his low regard for the conductor's abilities and was pleasantly surprised.
"How well he sustains the line," Rodzinski remarked. "Listen to that balance. He must have studied my recording." He had apparently done Sevitzky an injustice, he confessed; far from being talent-free, the man was, apparently, a great conductor...
The last note was followed, however, not by the expected applause, but by a moment of silence, finally broken by the announcer's voice: As the concert had been rained out, he explained, the station had opted to play a recording of Shostakovich's Fifth... conducted by Artur Rodzinski!
