Earning but $100 a month in those early days, we faithfully paid God His tenth! That was almost 60 years ago, and our tithe increased as our earnings increased. I have been thinking: What might I have today as assets if the money we paid in tithe had been wisely invested in stocks and bonds! I mean "safely" investing in only prime stocks. Added up and with total wealth, doubled every seven years, and compounded - why, I might today be a wealthy man with more money to leave to my heirs when I die! I am reminded of a parable that church elders would tell their congregations, encouraging them to invest in eternal treasures. An angel was showing a rich man around heaven. The two crossed the river, leaving the lot where the "finer" mansions stood and came to a modest little place, and the angel said, "This is yours!" "I don't understand. My servant has a better place than mine. How come?" "My friend," the angel replied, "We did the best with what you sent up." I have decided that while it is great to have wealth here on earth, our greatest wealth cannot be attained here, but in heaven. How many nuclear engineers does it take to change a light bulb? None. People who already glow in the dark don't need light bulbs. How many lawyers does it take to change a light bulb? How many can you afford? How many psychiatrists does it take to change a light bulb? Just one, but it has to “really” want to change. ~~~~~~~ KEEP SMILING: The day I immigrated to the United States, when I was fifteen years old, I was given a green ID card that featured a cute photo of me. Years later, when I went to the courthouse to become a citizen, one of the clerks confiscated my Green Card. "What will you do with it?" my wife asked. "We have to burn it," was the answer. "Could you please at least cut the photo off and let us keep it?" my wife queried. "Absolutely not!" the clerk replied. "This is official government property and as such it cannot be mutilated before we destroy it!"
