WIT & WISDOM - September 25, 1998

~~~~~~~ THOUGHTS:
Every human being is intended to have a character of his own; to be what no other is, and to do what no other can do. - Channing Pollock [1]
~~~~~~~ SPECIAL THOUGHTS:

AN INDIAN PROVERB:

When you were born,
you cried and the world rejoiced.
Live your life in such a manner that
when you die
The world cries and you rejoice. [2]

~~~~~~~ THIS & THAT:
FUNNY EPITAPHS FROM REAL TOMBSTONES: Part 2 of 3
A widow wrote this epitaph in a Vermont cemetery:
Sacred to the memory of
my husband John Barnes
who died January 3, 1803
His comely young widow, aged 23, has
many qualifications of a good wife, and
yearns to be comforted.
A lawyer's epitaph in England:
Sir John Strange
Here lies an honest lawyer,
And that is Strange.
Someone determined to be anonymous in Stowe, Vermont:
I was somebody.
Who, is no business
Of yours.
Lester Moore was a Wells, Fargo Co. station agent for Naco, Arizona in the
cowboy days of the 1880's. He's buried in the Boot Hill Cemetery in
Tombstone, Arizona:
Here lies Lester Moore
Four slugs from a .44
No Les No More.
In a Georgia cemetery:
"I told you I was sick!"
John Penny's epitaph in the Wimborne, England, cemetery:
Reader if cash thou art
In want of any
Dig 4 feet deep
And thou wilt find a Penny.
On Margaret Daniels grave at Hollywood Cemetery Richmond, Virginia:
She always said her feet were killing her
but nobody believed her. [3]
~~~~~~~ KEEP SMILING:

I didn't know if my granddaughter had learned her colors yet, so I decided to test her. I would point out something and ask what color it was. She would tell me, and always she was correct. But it was fun for me, so I continued. At last she headed for the door, saying sagely, "Grandma, I think you should try to figure out some of these yourself!" [4]

~~~~~~~ TRIVIA:
"While the average child laughs 150 times a day, say researchers at the University of Michigan, the average adult laughs only 15 times." Youth Worker Update, Signs of the Times, August 1993 [5]
