~~~~~~~ SPECIAL THOUGHTS:
In his book When You've Been Wronged (Moody), Erwin Lutzer tells this story: "A young pastor began a ministry on Saturday mornings to the inmates of the local county jail. Each week he'd go into the jail cells and conduct Bible studies and prayer sessions among the inmates -- mostly young white men who were doing time for anything from burglary to habitual drug use. As he'd enter the jail the despair and anger among these nineteen to twenty-four-year-olds was palpable.
"When the young pastor asked the warden how so many young men with great promise could end up in such a place, the warden sighed and said, 'This place is filled with boys who got tired of waiting for their dads to keep their promises -- promises to provide, promises to show up and spend time with them, promises to come home at night -- they finally got so angry with the injustice of it, they went out and did stupid things.'
Acceptance Speech
The radio's replaying last night's winners
and the gratitude of the glamorous,
everyone thanking everybody for making everything
so possible, until I want to shush
the faucet, dry my hands, join in right here
at the cluttered podium of the sink, and thank
my mother for teaching me the true meaning of okra,
my children for putting back the growl in hunger,
my husband, primo uomo of dinner, for not
begrudging me this starring role --
without all of them, I know this soup
would not be here tonight.
And let me just add that I could not
have made it without the marrow bone, that blood-
brother to the broth, and the tomatoes
who opened up their hearts, and the self-effacing limas,
the blonde sorority of corn, the cayenne
and oregano who dashed in
in the nick of time.
Special thanks, as always, to the salt --
you know who you are -- and to the knife,
who revealed the ripe beneath the rind,
the clean truth underneath the dirty peel.
-- I hope I've not forgotten anyone --
oh, yes, to the celery and the parsnip,
those bit players only there to swell the scene,
let me just say: sometimes I know exactly how you feel.
But not tonight, not when it's all
coming to something and the heat is on and
I'm basking in another round
of blue applause.
~~~~~~~ KEEP SMILING:

As a claims adjuster, I often visit people who have injuries from accidents. One day when visiting an elderly client's home for the first time, I was barely able to introduce myself before she launched into a long recitation of her many aches, pains, medications and treatments, and the details of her many doctors' visits. I took notes furiously, trying to keep up.

Finally, she remarked: “But I shouldn't really complain. At least I haven't been in an accident like my poor sister. I suppose you're here to see her?”

DirecTV To Offer Web Over Power Lines

U.S. satellite-TV provider DirecTV Group Inc. and Current Group LLC announced a deal Wednesday to offer high-speed Internet service over electric-power lines. DirecTV customers -- initially limited to Texas's Dallas-Fort Worth area -- will be able to access the Internet by plugging a special "broadband over power line" modem the size of a cell phone "into virtually any outlet in their home," the companies said. Broadband over power line technology is capable of faster speeds than some high-speed Internet plans offered by cable and phone companies, the company said. Under the agreement, DirecTV will market a bundled package of Current's broadband and voice over Internet protocol, or VoIP, services under the DirecTV brand. The DirecTV package of television, Internet and phone services will be available by early 2008 and be priced to compete against comparable services offered by phone companies, DirecTV said.
